The Flaming Lips with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic
6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Presented by Devon Energy Corp.
Also sponsored by AT&T and Enogex, an OGE Energy Corp. Company

Tonight, you will bear witness to music history amid a psychedelic and multi-media concert extravaganza, as the world-renowned alternative rock band The Flaming Lips join the Oklahoma City Philharmonic for the first time ever, in a special engagement commissioned just for the mayors of America.

From their home base of Oklahoma City, The Flaming Lips have sold three million albums and become legendary for their live shows and unique sound, winning three Grammys along the way. Led by Wayne Coyne, Michael Ivins and Steven Drozd, The Lips are a local treasure, representing an unexpected side of Oklahoma City to fans around the world. Last year, the State of Oklahoma named their hit "Do You Realize??" the Official Rock Song of Oklahoma. Meanwhile, their longtime manager Scott Booker has grown their influence by founding the Academy of Contemporary Music (known colloquially as the "School of Rock") in Bricktown, educating hundreds of young people in the business of music. Tonight, the Lips will perform for the first time with Oklahoma City's Philharmonic, under the direction of Joel Levine.

The venue for tonight's event, the Ford Center, was constructed in 2001 to attract major league sports, which it did in 2008 when it became home to the NBA's most exciting young team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. A renovation approved by the voters in 2008 is now underway.

Presented by Advanced Academics
Complete your evening with a visit to the Purple Bar at Nonna's Euro-American Ristorante on Flaming Lips Alley in Bricktown. Nonna's is a cozy and fun bar with unique lighting that splashes down from mouth-blown glass fixtures and chases soft colors across the front of the bar. The second floor patio allows for a great view of the city.

Your honorary host for the evening will be legendary football coach Barry Switzer. Switzer is one of only two head coaches to win both the Super Bowl and the NCAA football championship. His Super Bowl title came with the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX, and his national championships came with the University of Oklahoma in 1974, 1975 and 1985.
